You Can’t Have It All

This is a poem that I wrote recently while reflecting on my own priorities and desires. In this time of reflection, I realized that “you can’t have it all” and when you sense something is valuable to you, trust your intuition and put more time, energy, and attention into that thing.

I’m learning that you can’t have it all,

Though it would be amazing to meet a nice girl,

Then go travel the world,

While chasing entrepreneurial pursuits,

But maybe it’s better to be like a tree,

And plant some roots.

Nourish one seed at a time,

And learn how to prioritize,

And not be played by your big eyes.

I’m learning that you can’t have it all.

It’s a simple lesson for me,

But it will take some time to adapt slowly.

Sometimes I get carried away in my dream,

But at the same time I would love

To be everywhere and do everything on Earth.

Do you know what I mean?

Focus is the name of this delightful game

That I’m grateful to be playing.

Focus on what’s truly important now,

And forget about the rest

Take a deep breath. RELAX.

Strive to be at your best.

This present moment is the test,

As it continually repeats,

You have a chance to just be,

And embody the change you wish to see.

I’m learning that you can’t have it all.

Just like how you can’t buy everything at the mall.

If you did, you would be broke.

Change your attitude to gratitude,

And become infinitely rich.

Overcoming that subconscious itch

To only consume and consume

Until the day comes

Where you arrive in your tomb.

Try to find peace just sitting in your room.

Be thankful that you have a roof over your head.

Be thankful that you get to sleep in your bed.

Be thankful that you’re happily fed.

Take the time to patiently sit,

And realize happiness comes from wanting what you get.

I’m learning that you can’t have it all.

I’m letting go of my expectation

Focusing in on this divine creation.

This beautiful moment in time,

As you await for my next rhyme

I want you to take a second to sit still and just breathe with me….
